How to make a new shop listing on your-local-shop.co.uk

Being an agent means that you have access to your own page for your shop.

You can add your contact information, publicise your location using a Multimap and add your own photographs ... and you can update the page to add new information (Christmas opening times for instance) any time you want.

See our demo page to see how it works.

What's more, you will have a web page that you can promote on calling cards, in newspapers and on printed literature, without the costs and hassles of setting up and maintaining your own website.

Here's how to get started.

Firstly, you go to the login page, shown in the picture below:

Login page

In the Quick start guide I explained how to get a login and set up a subscription to become an agent.

Login using the details that you used in during the quick start process, you'll then be presented with your agent admin area as in the image below:

Admin options

Select Add listing and you'll be taken to the menu below ... make sure you select the Subscriber option in the drop down menu:
Select 'Subscriber' in the drop down menu

When you click Submit you'll be asked to enter all the relevant information about your milk delivery business. Once you've done this, click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page - see below:

Fill in your information on this page

After clicking on Submit, you'll be taken to the screen below which confirms that your information has been saved:

Success screen

If you have them, you now need to add photos of your business. You can add up to 10 photos as part of your subscription, but please note that your images are generally best if they are no bigger than 380 pixels in width.

If you need to re-size your images, shrinkpictures.com is an excellent free website which will enable you to do this without technical knowledge.

To begin the process of uploading your photos, click on the Edit Images text, see the top LHS in the image below:

You can now edit images from this page

You'll be asked to 'browse' to each of your images - see below:

Uploading your photos

You have a maximum of 10 images to upload.

Click in each of the blank boxes labelled Send this file and map to the image that you want to upload.

Once you've completed this process for each of your images, click on Upload picture and your images will be added to your page.

Once you've successfully uploaded your images, you'll see a confirmation message.

Click on the link that says Return to edit listing towards the top of the page, and you'll be taken back to your main agent page now displaying a line of thumbnails (small images) as in the picture below:

Your images have now been added

You have now created your milk delivery service page, which you can update at any time.

The image below shows you how your information looks on the page:

The link to this page is:

http://your-local-shop.co.uk/my_shop/
index.php?action=listingview&listingID=2

This is not a very good web link to give your customers as it's not very memorable, so there are two alternatives at this stage.

Either, buy a custom web address for £25 (see the Quick start guide) and that way you will be able to advertise a much simpler web address like www.freds-local-shop.co.uk which will link directly to your page.

Alternatively, you can use a site like tinyurl.com which will shorten your complicated web link and make it easier to display on a business card or printed literature ... so you'd get something like this:

http://tinyurl.com/64y4zf

I recommend the extra expense of getting a dedicated web address as this a) looks more professional b) can be used as the basis of a full website and dedicated email address for the business should you get more ambitious in the future.
